Saturday night's intimate party to celebrate my next chapter was filled with yummy food, wonderful friends and a ton of laughter. One special, unexpected moment was when my friend, Bobbi, gifted me with a one-of-a-kind glass piece called the Endless Knot. As described on the box:
"This knot represents a never ending connection, a symbol of eternity, harmony and endless love. The intertwining of both the past and the present, unifying both the giver and the recipient with no beginning and no end, links our fate, binds us together."
With this gift, Bobbi wanted me to know what a difference I made in her life and in the lives of others when I chose to call the police repeatedly on my abusive neighbour, since no one ever called the police when she was being abused. We talked openly about her experience on Mandyland Radio in the hopes it would offer light and hope to other women in a similar circumstance. You can listen to it here.
On Sunday, Bobbi posted the adorable photo above of us with the glass piece, along with these touching words she shared about why she gave me this precious gift:
"In my opinion there are certain people you meet in your life at the right time. For me at this moment it is Mandy Richardson. This lady is one of the most beautiful people one could meet. Anyone that knows my past with regards to domestic violence can appreciate the impact it has had in my life. Not only has Mandy let me share my story on her radio show and given me the opportunity to inspire and give strength to other women going through the same nightmare, she herself has had the strength to call the police to protect someone who she knew was being abused. This is something that was never offered to me even though people knew. The glass piece in the picture is a gift I gave her this past weekend called an "endless knot". It represents the eternal impact she has had in my life. Thank you so much Mandy for selflessly being not just my strength but the strength for many others as well. Love you beauty xoxo"
I feel so honoured to know that I have had a positive impact on another, and I am just so amazed by any of us who have faced hell and come out on the other side. I commend ALL men and women who have suffered abuse of any kind and have found within themselves the strength to rise above it and create something new.
To Bobbi and every man and woman out there who decided they deserved more and took the steps to reclaim their power, I applaud you. To those currently experiencing abuse, you are not alone and there are people out there who genuinely care about what you're going through that are willing and able to help when you are ready to speak about what's going on, and hopefully even before then. Most don't make the call but some do, thank God. And I do. Always.
